Calamity Jon Morris is a Washington-based illustrator and graphic designer and the artist who drew up a fantastic redesign of DC’s Aquaman.

You may see the original redesign by clicking on the image on the right. Costume design is a great talent. It isn’t really my forte but I am interested in seeing how a stylistic change can influence the costume. I’ve seen a number of superhero characters drawn by a multitude of artists and each time there’s a different flavour to the costume.

Jon’s style here is very cartoony and still intricate. It shows the mass of Aquaman’s figure as he glowers with weapon in hand. The costume is very evocative of the character’s profession: warrior king.

My approach was to establish Aquaman’s swimmer physique. Muscular and broad while still being lean. Then I incorporate the elements that Jon had in his Aquaman.

Compare and contrast.

Aquaman belongs to DC Comics.

I love getting fan art. It’s wonderful to see that someone has dedicated their time and effort out of their busy schedule and made something special. If you’d like to submit some Legendary Woodsman art, please contact me.
